Women are at their most beautiful aged 31, according to research.

My mum has always said that she felt the most beautiful aged around 34yrs – but to be honest I just thought she was trying to be kind and get me through my first landing of crows feet and peppering of wiry grey hair. But as always, it appears she had a point…..

Move over Kristen Stewart and Emma Watson – apparently the fresh bloom of youth is overrated! According to a recent survey published this week, women in their early 30s are more beautiful than those in their teens or twenties. 31 is the peak age for beauty which is great news for Christine Bleakley, Alesha Dixon, Kelly Brook and Katherine Heigl who all clocked up 31 years this year.

So why do they think 31 is the optimum age for beauty? , while style is near the top of the agenda with 47% thinking it makes a difference.

It is also telling that as women get older they care less about what other people think, a factor that can help grow confidence. 63% agree with the statement ‘with age comes beauty’, while 51% have let go of their insecurities as they got older and feel more beautiful.

So if it’s confidence that makes women more beautiful, then maybe it’s not all downhill after the big 3-0. Women like Elle McPherson 47, Kim Cattrall, 53, Helen Mirren, 64 and my mum prove this point; it looks like it’s not just men who get better with age.
