Rihanna Tries Out Two-Tone Trend
2011
We can’t keep up with Rihanna’s hair. The What’s My Name singer celebrated her recent number one single with yet another change to her tresses. The fire-engine red corkscrew curls have been toned down and tamed into a sleeker look with two-tone red shades. A choppy fringe has also been introduced to frame the singer’s face.
Many hair colour users wouldn’t dare to try and recreate the two-tone look at home for fear of making mistakes, but we’re here to tell you how easy it can be to create Rihanna’s multi-coloured look in your own bathroom!
Firstly, you need to choose two colours that will compliment each other rather than clashing. Rihanna has opted for two deep red shades that go really well together. To get this look, use Palette in 872 Dark Bordeaux for underneath section layered with LIVE Color XXL in 43 Red Passion on top.
The next step is all about sectioning. It is worth investing in a comb with a tail handle and some good section clips to help you get an even layer in a straight line. Ask a friend to help you, or use a three-way vanity mirror so you can see the back of your head clearly, and separate your hair into two layers. Secure the top layer out the way with the section clips, then brush through the lower layer to ensure it is tangle free before colouring.
Apply the hair colour you have chosen for the lower layer as you normally would by colouring the roots in small sections then working the dye through to the ends of your hair.
Once you have applied the colour to the underneath section and massaged the dye in well, secure it with a section clip and then take down your top layer. Just like before, divide the hair into smaller sections and then apply your second hair colour to the roots before taking it through to the ends. Massage well to ensure that the entire layer is covered with the dye, then secure with a hair clip and allow the colour to develop as advised on the instruction leaflet.
When the developing time is up, rinse your hair in lukewarm water and style as normal to reveal your new two-tone look!
